Now, we are proud to host our twenty-fourth annual Signet Classics Student Scholarship Essay Contest, in which five high school juniors or seniors (or home-schooled students aged 16-18) can each win a $1,000 scholarship award to be used toward their higher education plus a Signet Classics library for their school or public library!

Essays must be submitted by a high school English teacher (or a parent/legal guardian for home-schooled students) on behalf of students who write an essay on one of five topics for this year’s competition book, ends with the deaths of Catherine and Heathcliff, leaving out the events of the second part of the novel.

Sponsor shall not be responsible for any delays, damage in the delivery of the prize, and/or loss of any prize in connection with delivery of the prize via mail.

In the event that there is an insufficient number of eligible entries, Sponsor reserves the right not to award the prizes.

If for any reason the Contest is not capable of being conducted as described in these rules, Sponsor shall have the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest.

Submissions including photographs may not include obscene, offensive or inappropriate (in Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion) material or defame any person, or otherwise infringe on any person’s proprietary rights.Building on the 2018 theme of , this year’s topics ask young writers to explore the shared values, interests and experiences across the network, and how they can use this to make positive change.It calls on young people to consider the potential of the Commonwealth in strengthening the cast and varied links between citizens.PRIVACY POLICY All information submitted in connection with entry to this Contest shall be governed by Sponsor’s privacy policy (at By entering this Contest, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this privacy policy.Each of the four (4) copies of the essay should include a cover letter on the parent/legal guardian’s letterhead that certifies that the student is home-schooled and includes the following details: Essays submitted without a cover letter on parent/legal guardian’s letterhead or cover letters that do not include the above details will be disqualified. Essays must be at least two and no more than three double-spaced pages, computer or typewritten (please do not staple submissions).Please include four (4) copies (including four (4) cover letters) of each essay submitted.Entries must be mailed to Penguin Publishing Group, Academic Marketing Department, Signet Classics Student Scholarship Essay Contest #24, 1745 Broadway, New York, NY 10019.To be eligible, all entries must be postmarked by April 15, 2020 and received on or by April 22, 2020.Winners may also be required to complete, execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release.The Winner’s school library or public library in the case of a home-schooled winner that will receive a Signet Classics Library shall also be required to provide a Federal Tax Identification Number to Sponsor for issuance of a 1099 form, in connection with its receipt of this portion of the prize.
